Dr. Peggy R. Scott is the founding Senior Pastor of Fellowship Around the Word Church located in Franklin, VA and the president of Peggy Scott Ministries, an apostolic and prophetic network of churches and ministries co-laboring to advance the Kingdom of God and to fulfill the Great Commission.
She is considered as a down to earth; telling it like it is presenter of the gospel. Dr. Scott presents the Word of God in a simplistic, practical, but scripturally sound manner. She has a non-traditional approach to reaching the lost, the unchurched, the disillusioned and the hurting. Dr. Scott strongly believes that we should come out from the pulpit and the pews and take the church into the community.
Having co-labored in the gospel for many years in California and extensively across the country and abroad with her sister, the late Dr. Carolyn Harrell who was affectionately referred to as God’s cheerleader to the Body of Christ; Dr. Scott has “unforgettable” ministry experiences. On one occasion, she told a group of L.A. (Los Angeles) gang members that Jesus is the “Real Homie.” In tears, they rushed to the altar with their weapons and colors, surrendering and giving their hearts to Christ.
Dr. Scott is a contributing author to the book, Those Preachin’ Women, Volume I, published by Dr. Ella P. Mitchell. She currently hosts a weekly radio program, Telling It Like It Is, and a television program, Practical Truths: Real People, Real Issues on WSKY- 4 TV in the Hampton Roads Virginia and northeastern North Carolina viewing areas.
Early in ministry, an inspirational proverb from a Christian magazine spoke profoundly to her life. It read, “God does not want your degrees, diplomas, or certificates; he wants your scars, so that he can make you whole.” This experience significantly impacted a decision to drop out of a doctoral urban education program and to begin biblical studies.
It was many years later before Dr. Scott realized that God’s intent was to bring healing to scars from abuse, rejection, and abandonment. Dr. Scott has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Norfolk State University, a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from Temple University, a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Jameson Christian College and a Doctorate of Divinity degree from International Christian University for life experience, education and ministry. Continuing education studies include: Temple University School of Law; Opportunities Academy of Management Training; IBM Community Executive Program, Tarrytown, NY; Applied Crisis Behavior Management Training; further graduate studies in clinical assessment and social work group processes at Norfolk State University and special education, Old Dominion University.
